Help students connect classroom learning to unfolding events with ready-to-go news lessons for grades 6-12. PBS NewsHour Classroom regularly posts lessons built around current reporting in civics, social studies, English language arts, science, STEM, and arts and culture. Teachers can search by topic or keyword, and individual entries commonly include a video report, a concise summary, discussion prompts, background information, media-literacy questions, and extension activities. The collection is especially useful for morning meetings, current-events routines, substitute plans, and timely additions to an existing unit. Because the subject matter follows the news, teachers should preview each lesson for sensitive topics, political content, violence, or other material that may require context for a particular class.

Turn a browser tab into a simple workspace for reminders, checklists, study notes, and quick planning with this free sticky-note tool. Users can create and color-code multiple notes, search their collection, sort notes alphabetically or by creation or modification date, and format text with bold, italics, underlining, strikethrough, bullets, and checkboxes. Notes can also include images and be downloaded as TXT, PDF, or RTF files. A pin feature keeps a note visible while users move between supported desktop windows and tabs. Notes save automatically in the browser's local storage rather than to an online account, so they remain on the same device and browser and may disappear when browser data is cleared. Full pinning and editing features are intended for supported desktop browsers and are limited on mobile devices and Safari.

Additional tools analyze frequently repeated words and phrases, highlight selected terms, measure sentence length, estimate reading and speaking time, and allow users to set word, character, sentence, or paragraph limits. Students can also set daily writing goals and track progress on weekly and monthly reports. Text and saved reports remain in the browser's local storage rather than in a cloud account. Downloadable reports are available as TXT, PDF, or DOC files on desktop devices. Lessons of Our Land offers teachers more than 200 ready-to-use lessons to bring Native American histories, cultures, land relationships, languages, inherent rights, and tribal sovereignty into regular classroom instruction. Developed by the nonprofit Indian Land Tenure Foundation, the interdisciplinary curriculum spans Pre-K through grade 12 and is designed for both Native and non-Native students. Teachers can search lessons by grade, subject, and academic standard, and some materials are tailored to California, South Dakota, Montana, or Minnesota while remaining adaptable for use elsewhere. Individual lessons may include teacher background, achievement goals, materials, student activities, discussion questions, maps, stories, research tasks, and downloadable PDFs. Sample topics range from creating neighborhood maps and studying wild rice to land stewardship, treaty-making, sovereignty, and the relationship between geography and cultural identity. The site also includes professional-development resources and the educational game When Rivers Were Trails, which follows an Anishinaabeg character displaced from Minnesota in 1890.

In the Classroom
Have students explore a lesson about land, place, or community and create an annotated map showing important locations and explaining how geography connects to identity using Google My Maps, reviewed here. How Do Native People and Nations Experience Belonging? is a six-part lesson series for students in grades 9-12 that explores the importance of homelands, kinship, and nationhood to Native Peoples of the Northern Plains. Through perspectives from Native community members, photographs, objects, and other primary and secondary sources, students examine how connections to land, family, community, and tribal nations shape identity and belonging. Lessons focus on belonging to the land, Native kinship systems, the rights and responsibilities of tribal citizenship, connections to Native histories and traditions, and the InterTribal Buffalo Council's work. Each lesson includes teacher and student instructions, supporting resources, and connections to the Common Core State Standards for ELA and the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies.

Designed for grades 4-12, the resource focuses on both Native history and present-day life. It supports Language Arts, U.S. History, Native American History, Social Studies, Current Events, Photography, Poetry, and Art. Students encounter photographs by Sue Reynolds, poems by Victor Charlo, and videos featuring Native youth discussing pride, courage, resilience, culture, family, and challenges. Teacher supports include interpretation strategies, writing and discussion prompts, research ideas, downloadable analysis sheets, and a regularly updated newsfeed. In the Classroom
Ask students to read a Victor Charlo poem and use the site's inquiry approach to identify what they notice, what they wonder, and where their prior ideas about Native Americans originated; then investigate one compelling question using additional sources. Have students compare information about a Native nation featured in the resource with tribally produced information, then create an annotated map with Google My Maps, reviewed here, showing important places and explaining why specific tribal identification is more accurate than treating Native peoples as one group. Assign students a final reflection in which they explain one stereotype or misconception that changed during the unit and support the response with two pieces of evidence from photographs, poems, videos, or background readings.

Spin to select students to respond to questions, add a series of review questions, select writing or debate topics, and more. Add character names or chapters to the wheel with hidden questions that test comprehension or theme analysis. Store short science, math, or history questions behind entries and have teams compete to answer correctly for points.
