In the Classroom
Have students act out the stages of the rock cycle as though they are particles moving through magma, then cooling, eroding, sedimenting, and subject to heat/pressure, giving a physical sense of how one rock type changes into another. Take students outside (or around the school grounds) to observe rocks, soil, water runoff, or signs of erosion. Have them take photos or sketches, record observations, and ask, "What changes over time?" What types of surfaces cause more erosion? They can record this information digitally using Book Creator, reviewed here or Canva Docs, reviewed here. Have students plan a small "town" or community, and include ways to use resources sustainably (water, energy, land).
