Scribe is a must-have Chrome browser extension for every classroom for creating step-by-step guides for many different uses. After installing the extension and creating an account, activate a Scribe recording to create and share step-by-step tutorials that follow your activity on the computer. Some examples shared include how to strikethrough text in a Google document, how to create a GIF from a YouTube video, and how to merge mail in Gmail. To create a Scribe, click the record button on your browser or Chrome extension and navigate to your starting page. Scribe records each of your actions with a small screenshot and creates a series of steps that guides viewers through the process shared. When finished, click the record button again to stop recording. Your Scribe appears on your account dashboard and offers options to edit the contents. After saving, use the provided link to share with others, embed using the shared code, or download it as a PDF.
In the Classroom
The number of uses in classrooms for Scribe are countless! Use Scribe to create guides for students to log in to software, games, and computer programs. Create step-by-step guides for students on how to add or edit images in tools such as Google Slides, reviewed here or Genially, reviewed here. Ask students to include Scribe within multimedia presentations to demonstrate information such as how to search Google for Creative Commons Images or how to narrow searches to fit into a custom time frame. Create Scribes to share with parents for use at home as a guide for accessing online tools needed for homework or practice. On this We Are Teachers page, find a curated list of virtual field trip resources to enhance students' learning experiences. These virtual experiences allow students to explore museums, historical sites, natural wonders, and other educational destinations from the comfort of their classrooms or homes! On this site, you'll find descriptions and links to various virtual field trip opportunities, and some resources provide tips for integrating them into lesson plans and activities. Many of these virtual trips are available on multiple YouTube channels. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable. In addition, some of these virtual field trips are sourced from several other sites and organizations; we advise that you review the privacy policies of these external sites to ensure compliance with their district's privacy policies.

Virtual field trips can immerse students in diverse learning experiences that allow teachers to go beyond the boundaries of their classroom. Find a virtual field trip that is relevant or connected to an upcoming unit. Begin by conducting an anonymous poll using a tool like Poll Everywhere, reviewed here or Mentimeter, reviewed here showing images from one of the virtual field trips you've chosen. Display images showcasing significant landmarks, main attractions, or features of the location. Students can post their wonderings, insights, or prior knowledge about the destination based solely on the images. This can ignite curiosity and generate excitement as students speculate about where the destination is. After gathering students' responses, announce that you'll be "taking them there" virtually through an upcoming virtual field trip! During the virtual field trip, integrate presentation tools using Pear Deck, reviewed here. Incorporate interactive question slides throughout the virtual field trip to prompt students to reflect on their learning, make connections, and apply their knowledge. You can even intersperse the presentation with interactive quizzes, polls, or collaborative brainstorming sessions. You can use this to keep the field trip active and engaging rather than a passive sit-and-get activity. Wrap it up by challenging students to become virtual field trip creators! Let them select a destination they want to "visit" and design an ideal virtual field trip experience for their peers. You can provide a template or criteria for students to consider when planning their virtual field trips. Students can use creation tools such as Google Slides, reviewed here or Canva Education Templates, reviewed here to create brochures or presentations that outline the details of their virtual field trip. easyCBM provides free tools for screening, monitoring student progress, and providing interventions in reading and math for students in grades K-8. Create a free account to access the resources included with easyCBM lite, then begin by adding up to 200 students to your dashboard or creating groups for progress monitoring. Select "Measures" to choose progress monitoring selections by grade level and topic. All choices include a printable assessment; some also have an online option. Follow the instructions to record student scores and generate reports that demonstrate progress. Learn more about implementing and using easyCBM's tools by using the tools found at the resource center.

It also features English in 30-Seconds videos on news topics and language oddities like slang and idioms. In addition, there are quizzes, participatory polls, written and oral interviews, recipes, and many other selections. This is not a site for breaking or controversial news. Besides appealing to ESL/ELL students, this site would work well with resource classes. Please remember to preview anything you wish to share, to be sure the content is appropriate for your classroom. Some of the videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

For example, when preparing an email to a parent about a student's negative behavior, choose a tool, such as "optimistic," to rewrite it in a more encouraging, positive tone. Magic ToDo uses artificial intelligence (AI) to break down tasks into a list of step-by-step directions to complete the job. Enter your prompt or activity into the chat box to begin, then use the pepper icons to select the specificity of directions. One pepper provides an essential list; five peppers offer the most detailed steps. Press enter after adding your prompt and choosing the level of directions to provide to view your results. Open the list by clicking the blue wand next to your prompt; hovering over the blue wand will show "break down the item." After viewing the list, use drag and drop features to change the order of steps in the list if desired, or choose the blue wand next to any item on the list to create additional steps. Other options in a dropbox next to each step of the directions include determining the approximate time to complete that step, editing the information, or deleting the step. Click the checkbox in each step as it is completed for a visual look at the progress in completing the task.

Use Magic ToDo as a professional tool for creating to-do lists to complete upcoming tasks, such as preparation for parent-teacher conferences, writing long-term lesson plans, preparing for substitutes, and more. Share Magic To-Do with students to create a guide for planning on completing long-term projects. Show students how to use the estimated time feature to help them understand the time required to complete all project steps. To help students stay on track, ask them to create a to-do list for their upcoming project, take a screenshot of their list, and share it with you. Then, ask for weekly screenshots that show each student's progress in completing the project and ask them to use the checkboxes to mark completed items. If students fall behind, have short conferences to determine what is holding them back and provide support as needed. Discover the power of storytelling through the work of the International Storytelling Center. The center's work includes three main categories: performance, preservation, and practice. Although many events are part of paid admission to the Storytelling Festival, the site contains many free resources. Start with the "Storytellers" link to learn about featured storytellers that include links to their websites. Select the area entitled "Initiatives" to find Freedom Stories and the Learning Library. Freedom Stories is an ongoing series that features performances and discussions focused on the topic of the Black Heritage of Appalachia. The Learning Library is an area for educators that includes lessons, storytelling toolkits, stories in action, and other classroom resources. The videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

Organize and annotate videos and files with Acclaim. Acclaim's step-by-step process and prompts makes creating courses, sharing course information, creating folders within courses, and adding videos or files almost effortless. The free registration is referred to as a demo. Register with email and create a course, a Course URL will be given. No need to copy it at this time. Clicking on the setting symbol on any course (and even folders) will give you the URL again. Students will need an email to join and access your courses and folders. Folders and courses can be made public or private. When prompted, upload files (including videos you created) from Dropbox, Google Drive, your computer, and others. Do this by "choosing" from a list, or using the "drag and drop" method. Add videos, your own recorded on a webcam, or from Vimeo or YouTube by pasting in their URL. Teachers and students can annotate videos at certain points with comments and questions. These comments and questions will receive a time stamp. If you organize your videos and documents within a course with folders, once students have registered with their email, you will need to go into the folder settings and give them access. Acclaim is 100% web based, and it is mobile friendly for all devices.

Acclaim is a terrific tool for any teacher who likes to show and discuss certain aspects of videos in class. No more talking over the video or pausing to ask a question or make a comment. Use Acclaim in class to pause and have the discussion questions visible from the video. This works exceptionally well if you're in a blended classroom or want to flip a lesson and have students watch the video from home and be prepared to discuss in class, or if you use stations in your classroom. Students can also put in questions for clarification at the time they are watching. Share Acclaim with research groups for uploading documents and videos they are thinking of using in presentations and projects. Never be embarrassed by mispronouncing a word again! This site has discrete pronunciation lessons featuring video broadcasts of pronunciation trouble spots. Each video link suggests further video lessons that may be related to the target pronunciation task. Text explanations explain that rhythm, stress, and intonation all contribute to understandable pronunciation. In addition to difficult sounds, lessons include poems, commonly mispronounced words, and words that look the same but have different pronunciation. Explanations of each lesson, found on the same page as the video, explain the sound using the International Phonetic Alphabet, explain the sounds using linguistic terms, and finally, describe where the tongue and lips should be to make the correct sound.

In the Classroom

Common Sense Education offers "Two Truths and AI," an activity that invites students and educators to explore how artificial intelligence can blur the line between truth and fiction. The interactive encourages learners to examine short statements generated or influenced by AI, decide which are true or false, and reflect on how AI is creating convincing but potentially misleading content. In doing so, it promotes critical digital literacy by helping students understand how AI works, how it can shape information, and how to make thoughtful judgments about what they read or see online.

In the Classroom
Share this game during the Hour of AI. Begin class with a "Two Truths and a Lie" icebreaker using everyday facts, then introduce the AI version from the website. Have students guess which statements might have been created by AI to start a discussion about how machines mimic human communication. Guide students to research examples of AI-generated content, such as news articles, art, or social media posts. In small groups, they can analyze clues that reveal when something might not be human-made and share their reasoning with the class. Quickly and easily generate and share timelines using the Turbo Timeline Generator. Begin by clicking the link to edit a timeline and change the informational text to add information to your timeline. Copy and paste data from a website or document or type information into the timeline generator. Add images by putting square brackets around key information as described in the instructions; Class Tools finds images based on your content. Timelines must contain ten or more items to use the save feature. When saving a timeline, provide a password when prompted to access your unique URL. Timelines are not kept on Class Tools, so save the URL in an easy-to-find location for use later and edit information if desired. Additional options available for sharing timelines include QR codes and embed codes.
In the Classroom
Take advantage of this timeline creator to create and share timelines that engage students for many classroom uses and content. For example, create a timeline of events in a novel or historical event, use a timeline to show steps in a progression of events such as turning a bill into law, or create a timeline of class events throughout the school year to share during the end-of-year activities. Ask students to create a timeline using this generator and include a link in a multimedia presentation. Enhance learning by asking students to create a timeline of events as an alternative to a written presentation. Include the timeline link as part of an interactive presentation or image created with Genially, reviewed here.
