BiblioNasium is a READING social platform for learners ages six to twelve. Students, teachers, and parents all have their own login on the site. Students need a parent (or legal guardian) to give permission to use this site. Teachers and parents can set reading goals and rate and recommend books. There are some similarities to Goodreads reviewed here in that this is a reading club where you can read reviews about books, write reviews, and rate books, too. Students will treasure finding new books recommended by others. Reluctant readers will become avid readers because it is easy to find topics of interest. Flash is used only for the introductory video.

EZVid is a video screencasting tool that captures everything that appears on your Windows computer screen. Once recorded, you can edit videos, add voice, add text, draw directly on the screen image, or control playback speed. Be sure to watch the video tutorial for all features. Upload finished videos directly to YouTube. Once uploaded, share using social networking links. At the time of this review, this tool was not compatible with a MAC. The website does offer some suggestions to MAC users (such as using Bootcamp). If your school blocks YouTube, you will not be able to use this site while at school.

What is learned by taking away the words from stories and articles and leaving just the punctuation? A lot! This interesting tool allows you to paste any text into the box and strip away everything except the punctuation. What is left behind is a graphic ready to analyze and discuss. Engage students in analyzing literature and their writing using just the punctuation. Ask students to compare and contrast the use of punctuation by different authors and discuss how it reflects a certain writing style or sets a tone for the text. Discuss authors with similar styles and those with very different use of punctuation. Compare and contrast punctuation in news articles versus fiction writing or textbooks. Is there a difference, and why? Take a screenshot of a new section of text to introduce the writing to students before reading and ask them to share their predictions on the author's writing style - consider the number of periods, exclamation marks, etc. Enhance learning by asking students to compare a piece of their writing to different authors. Can they find an author with a similar writing style? When finished, have students share their reflections in a blog created with Carrd, reviewed here. Choose any topic you're teaching and have students generate three "wonder questions." Invite them to share one with a partner, then select a few to guide class discussion. Give students small index cards and have them write or draw one thing they are grateful for that day. They should say something specific, not general (for example, "My friend helped me understand fractions" instead of "my friends"). Collect the cards and create a class gratitude wall. Set up three short challenge stations (puzzles, STEM building tasks, brainteasers). Have students rotate through each one and practice using perseverance strategies, such as breaking a task into smaller steps or trying a new approach. This works well as a warm-up for ELA, science, or social studies lessons. What Do Snowmen Do In Summer? - is one of the TeachersFirst Help! I lost my media/library specialist collection found here that features topics and resources that focus on integrating literacy with technology. The Introduction and Background Knowledge discuss how important it is, yet how hard it is, to keep children engaged in literacy once summer vacation arrives and the weather gets nice. The Activities suggest how to get books into kid's hands with links and ideas for where to find them. Some exciting ideas for activities are offered, such as Camp Book-it, Chuck E Cheese Reward Calendar, and a few others. The last section of the article suggests Extension activities you may not have thought about regarding summer literacy. Ideas found on this resource include correlation to ISTE and AASL National School Library Standards.

This site is a great addition to any world language, history, music, English, or science class. Use the oral history section to hear stories from Holocaust survivors. Listen to accents from around the world. Have you ever wanted to know what a cicada sounds like? Use the recordings from the nature and environment section. Science and music teachers can use the site to show how sound waves look. Use the site to demonstrate how to create an oral history. Then have cooperative learning groups create podcasts demonstrating their understanding of a particular topic you are studying. Use a site such as PodOmatic (reviewed here). In world language classes, have students explore locations to learn more about the sound of that country. Each biography includes an interactive featuring videos, images, teaching activities, and leveled reading booklets. Use other site features to create trading cards and build graphic organizers and timelines. Learn more about Wisconsin through three thematic videos that analyze the stories and provide context for how events connect over time.

In the Classroom
Use this fabulous site as part of your lessons on biographies or as you learn about the states. Ask students to choose one of the biographies as a starting point for researching other Americans. For example, after learning about Walter Bresette, challenge students to learn about others who teach about American Indian rights and protecting the earth. Extend learning by using this site as a model for student-created projects or as a class project. Use a website creation tool like about.me, reviewed here, to build a webpage to tell about the famous person being researched. Include a video created using Adobe Express for Education, reviewed here, to bring their story to life; find many ideas and templates to help students organize information on Read Write Think, reviewed here. When finished, upload student-created documents similar to the booklets found on the site. Use the idea maps found on the Wisconsin site to create a timeline or other graphic organizer and include it on the student webpage using a link or by uploading their saved PDF. Create and include a trading card using Canva Edu, reviewed here, and sharing a link on student pages.

Transform research or information into shareable pages using Perplexity Pages. Add a topic, choose your audience, and provide a prompt to generate a fully customizable page with text and images. You can find Pages by visiting the Perplexity chatbot, reviewed here. Select the plus sign, then click to open the library to find Pages. Once in Pages, fill in the section to describe your Page, choose your audience, and click the arrow to generate your Page. After generating the information, use links to add sections and media, or edit the content. Publish your Page and share it using the link provided. Viewers of Pages can ask questions using the chat feature.

For example, convert an avi movie file to a different movie format such as mp4 or an audio file. Choose an option to receive your new file by email or directly into your DropBox (reviewed here ). This tool is particularly helpful for mobile device users because it can manage conversions of files both stored and converted in the cloud.

Choose options from the most widespread uses or scroll further down the page to view all options. Select your desired tool, then follow the prompts to upload your document. Once the document uploads, choose from options such as quality preferred, then select the link to convert your file. When complete, download the new file to your device or select the dropdown box to choose from other options, such as uploading to Dropbox or Google Drive. PDF Converter also offers a Chrome extension that provides instant access to all the tools when using your Chrome browser.
