In the Classroom
Have students use this site to create words and categorize them based on common prefixes or suffixes. Challenge students to see how many words they can make in a particular time. Up the challenge by requiring a specific prefix or suffix to be used. Play a word detective game where you give clues about the word, and the students use the site on their devices to try to guess the word. Use the site for individual assessment. Students can work in teams to describe words or phrases related to the plays without using certain "taboo" words. Have students select a scene from one of Shakespeare's plays and rewrite it in modern language. Use an online tool such as Interactive Two Circle Venn Diagram (reviewed here) to compare information from two different sites. Provide a link for students to use this site to make searching easier when working on book reports, research projects, or presentations. Demonstrate how to use the search on your interactive whiteboard (or projector) and point out how to narrow down results using links to individual sites. QRToon is a creative tool that transforms standard QR codes into works of art. It allows you to customize QR codes with colors and styles and even embed images or logos to make them stand out. This is great if you want to add a personal touch to your QR codes. There is a bot that requires downloading and connecting to your phone. This is not needed to create the picture QR codes.
In the Classroom
Teachers create custom QR codes for each student with their image that link to personalized learning activities or feedback based on their learning progress. Enhance classroom posters with QR codes that students can scan to access additional information like videos or interactive content related to the subject matter. ZEP is a virtual space where members can move, speak, and interact with other community members and objects. ZEP allows subscribers to create virtual chatrooms that resemble real-life offices, classrooms, social gatherings, and businesses. Teachers can create virtual rooms, called spaces, using provided templates or create a room from scratch by starting with an empty map. Rooms can accommodate up to 20 people at a time. Members must be at least 14 years old to have an account, and it requires parental permission for minors. Zep does allow your space to be password protected, among other security settings, to create a safer online environment for your students.

Quiz Show is a survival game where players survive by correctly answering quiz questions from the room host (the teacher). Find ideas for using QR codes in the classroom. This slideshow is a must-see to get many unique ideas for using QR codes. Examples include adding QR codes to worksheets for students to check answers or to go to a video explanation for completing the worksheet. Another idea: print a QR code on a sticker and place into textbooks for students to access additional content. Add to displays or bulletin boards to make them interactive. There are many great ideas shared on this site. It is definitely worth a visit for anyone using or wanting to use QR codes in their classroom. Of course, you do need to have devices that can read the QR codes; smart phones and iTouches work well.

In the Classroom
In language arts or history classrooms use a wiki to create a favorite historical figures page, have students share their favorite person from history along with supporting evidence. Use a wiki to set up a debate between students. For example, create a wiki and ask students to debate the use of homework in schools, the effect of social media on society, or year-round school vs. traditional school calendars. As your class builds and adds to the wiki, ask students to select a topic to research further. In the Classroom
Show a short video connected to an upcoming unit, then build a "Wonder Wall" where students post questions. This model shows how PBL begins with curiosity and student-generated inquiry.
