Typeform offers an interactive method for asking and answering questions online. Use the form builder to create visually rich and engaging questions. Drag-and-drop features make it easy to add and personalize content, including various question choices, images, backgrounds, and more. The "live" preview allows you to see your Typeform evolve as you create it. When complete, share using your unique URL or embed your Typeform using the provided HTML. Go to the Help Center and under Dashboard, read more about your options for sharing your Typeform. Choose options for receiving and tracking visits to your form in your configuration settings. Track visitor behavior and demographics with your Google Analytics tracking code; you can also export your results to a spreadsheet in Excel (XLS) or CSV file formats, or Google Sheets. Through Typeform, you can have your Google sheet automatically update as answers come in--no need to export data manually. Free plans allow users to create unlimited Typeforms and collect up to ten responses per month.

This free tool is an excellent way to determine the value or rating of various items. Use this in science class to poll students on multiple types of renewable and nonrenewable energies as cheap/expensive and clean/dirty for the environment. Poll students on types of cars, rating the cost and gas mileage. Follow up with research into the various makes and models. Poll about famous presidents and multiple influences on the economy and society. Compare characters in various novels in terms of motivation and other characteristics. In younger grades, gather data about students' favorite animals and why (such as fluffy/ferocious) or favorite colors and mood. Learn more about your students by polling them on various social and cultural topics, such as fashion, movies, and songs. Use this to identify misconceptions and resistance to various subject areas. Identify foods and feelings for each specific kind of food in Family and Consumer Science or attitudes towards multiple sports. Conduct specific polls for Introduction to Psychology or Sociology about various topics and reactions to the issues. Use to poll students on project ideas or to determine responses to current events. Older students may want to include polls on their student blogs or wiki pages to increase involvement or create polls to use at the start of project presentations. Use polls to generate data for math class (graphing), during elections, or for critical thinking activities dealing with the interpretation of statistics. Use "real" data to engage students in issues that matter to them. For Professional development, rate different technology tools based on ease of use and difficulty, as well as high and low value for instruction. Place a poll on your classroom web page as a homework inspiration or to increase parent involvement. But if you want to keep track of your progress, registration is suggested. You can sign up with your email or Google or Facebook account. Use the cloud to store your results. This enables use of this tool anywhere, anytime. There is a thorough slide tutorial when first arriving at the site. You can find it again under the Help section. The tutorial explains how the lessons are set up, what you will see on your screen, and what each feature does. You do not have to register to use this site, only to track your progress.

In the Classroom
Everyone will benefit by learning to type faster. Introduce this site on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Then have students practice their touch typing independently. No need to have them sign up. They will see their speed and errors at the end of each list given to them. That information will accumulate for as long as they continue the practice. They could keep their results in a word document or a Google Doc. For more about Google Docs and Templates see the review here. Be sure to watch and see that students are using the proper touch typing position (no two finger typing!). Share this site with your students who are struggling with writing. Use this tool easily in your Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) classroom since all students will be able to access it for free, no matter what device they have. You will need the basic understanding of how to upload pictures, videos, and other media, especially if you are adding personalized content. An optional AI prompt-enhancement feature can help generate more detailed and creative results. Once songs are generated, users can remix, extend, edit, and refine their music before downloading or sharing it by URL. Udio also provides options to export audio and create simple music videos. The UFLI Toolbox is a free website that offers a variety of resources that align with the Science of Reading. When you scroll to the bottom of the website, it shares the scope and sequence of the lessons. Once you click on the lesson, you will receive resources, including a slide deck (PowerPoint and Google Slides versions) for the skill, decodable passages, home practice activities, and additional activities. Home practice provides word chains, sample words, and sentences. The additional activities include roll and read. At the end of each phonics concept, an assessment is provided. Additionally, if you click on the Resources tab, you will gain access to virtual teaching resources, dyslexia, and parent hubs, which provide lessons, videos, and support.

Ultimate Titanic is a site put together by teachers and historians dedicated to giving a clear understanding of the people and the events related to RMS Titanic. The site contains hours of footage from survivors, animations, and documentaries as well as hundreds of photographs and documents to explore. Use the categories listed at the top of the page to find and narrow information to view. Choose from options such as the ship, the tragedy, or news. Within the education section are links to teaching ideas, a timeline, and several documentaries. The site has a few occasional typos but is still worthwhile. (Give bonus points to students who find a typo!) Some of the video clips are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin was a cultural phenomenon when it was published, and continues to be an important window into the mid-19th century anti-slavery movement prior to the American Civil War. Here you will find important cultural context for a fuller discussion of the novel and its impact on American society and history. Browse the site for a variety of primary source material, or interpret the work's significance through one of several lenses: Anti-slavery texts, the influence of "minstrel shows," 19th century Christian revivalism, or Victorian sentimentality. There are several high school level lesson plans to give you ideas for using the enormous number of audio, visual, and text-based resources available to supplement either a literary examination of Uncle Tom's Cabin, or a cultural-historical one. Be advised that much of the primary material reflects the 19th century views on race that prevailed at the time. It should be carefully viewed and used within a discussion of its context.

Undraw is an open-source resource for image designs to use with any application. Choose from a huge library of images available in PNG and SVG formats. Use the color generator to customize and change the image color to fit your needs. Although only a portion of each image changes color, the effect is significant and very helpful for various needs. Take advantage of the search feature to browse through the many available images that match your criteria. After selecting an image and color, click to open the picture and choose from options to download to your computer as an SVG or PNG file.
In the Classroom
Be sure to bookmark this resource for images for a variety of classroom uses. Include images from this site in your class newsletter or website. Select interesting images to use for creative writing prompts. Change the color in an image and ask students to compare the two images and reflect upon how the use of color changes an item's mood or tone. This special digital issue of Reading Research Quarterly takes an in-depth look at the topic of the Science of Reading. Over an hour and a half, two editors of the quarterly participate in a conversation that includes discussions of questions submitted by viewers and reviews of critical findings and editors' discoveries found in their research of the Science of Reading. The videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

This tool reveals full URLs for links that have been shortened using URL shortener tools (like bit.ly, tinyurl.com and others). Many of the URLs created by the shortening sites are blocked by school content filters (because the shortener websites are actually blocked). Try un-shortening the URL with this tool to access the content and to know what you are headed for! Enter the URL and click the button. Shortened URLs can also hide undesirable content, so seeing the "real" URL can prevent embarrassment such as opening something unexpected in front of others.

Use this to access sites especially those shared with your PLN through RSS or Twitter. Many times, the original link is not blocked but the shortened URL is because of the shortener service's URL. Use images from Unsplash as creative writing prompts. Have students create a multimedia presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint Online, reviewed here, uploading the image they choose and narrating it. Challenge students to find a photo (legally permitted to be reproduced), and then narrate the photo as if it is a news report. Unsplash, the amazing site for finding free, high-quality images, has curated several collections of photos for use in educational settings. Topics include health, nature, politics and current events, and much more. Browse through any collection to find and download images. Although attribution isn't required, it is encouraged. Include the provided attribution text when using images for any project. Registration isn't required; however, it allows you to save images and create and share collections.

This distance learning lesson uses four oral history videos of persons that lived through incarceration camps to teach the story of discrimination toward Japanese Americans during WWII. The content is correlated to Common Core Standards and California Content Area Connections. A set of discussion questions accompanies each of the videos in the first portion of the lesson. During the second activity, students dig deeper into the symbolism and feelings evoked from watching the videos. The California Museum also provides a playlist of videos to accompany these activities, learn more about them here. The videos are hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.

In the Classroom
Use the videos and lesson activities included on this site as part of any unit on discrimination, WWII, and American History. Engage students in learning as you start your unit using IdeaBoardz, reviewed here. Ask students to add sticky notes or text to a prompt that asks them what they understand about discrimination or events during WWII. Instead of providing a worksheet for students to respond to the questions included in this activity, use edpuzzle, reviewed here, to add questions and discussion activities within each video. Extend learning further by asking students to create blog posts using Edublogs, reviewed here, to discuss discrimination against the Japanese during WWII and reflect upon how that impacts Japanese Americans in current times.

Urban Dictionary is a crowdsourced online dictionary that defines slang words, phrases, and cultural expressions. While it can be useful for understanding contemporary language and informal speech, educators should use it with caution, as definitions are user-submitted and often contain inappropriate or unverified content. Teachers may find it helpful for discussing evolving language trends, idioms, or figurative language in media, but it is best suited for teacher reference rather than direct student use in the classroom.

In the Classroom
Assign students different decades (e.g., the 1920s, 1950s, 1980s, 2000s) and have them research common slang terms from that era. Have students invent their own words or phrases, define them, use them, and illustrate them in sentences, then compile the words into a Class Dictionary of Modern Language. Make a class template for this project on Google Slides, reviewed here or Book Creator, reviewed here. Provide students with a list of informal slang phrases (teacher-selected, school-appropriate).
