In the Classroom
Although this site is useful for many purposes, sometimes it is best just to let students explore and discover on their own. Share Voyager with students and allow them time to look around and select places that intrigue them. Encourage them to learn more about an area or subject of interest found on the site. Instead of writing down information, ask students to use Google Docs or Microsoft Word to begin research. Using these online documents affords many benefits, including the ability to add comments, highlight information, and add links to online information. Once research is underway, suggest that students use a bookmarking tool like Raindrop.io, reviewed here, to organize information. Raindrop.io includes the ability to add notes to bookmarks, making it easy for students to label and add information for later use. Create a survey as an exit slip to identify student understanding or misunderstandings. Use a poll on a projector or interactive whiteboard to discuss and informally assess prior knowledge as you start your study by asking questions about the material. Discuss in groups why those in class would choose a particular answer to uncover misconceptions. Use for Daily quiz questions to gain knowledge of student understanding and a means of formative assessment. Create a question that matches the day's lesson to determine how well students are able to solve a similar problem. Use the survey to collect data from students for use in a Math class (such as calculating means and medians) or in a Social Sciences/Psychology class to determine trends and opinions. Simply copy and paste your text into the field, highlight words if desired, and then click "Start prompt." Click play on the next screen to start the prompter. Speed up or slow down the speed of the prompter using the "+" or "-" buttons. The size of the prompter text can also be increased easily. Users must be able to copy and past text from one application to another. Player controls look much like standard video player controls. Follow the demo to watch how it is used or take a few moments to play with it. Close the site, and the information in the prompter is lost.

Create a free account to access the resources included with easyCBM lite, then begin by adding up to 200 students to your dashboard or creating groups for progress monitoring. Select "Measures" to choose progress monitoring selections by grade level and topic. All choices include a printable assessment; some also have an online option. Follow the instructions to record student scores and generate reports that demonstrate progress. Learn more about implementing and using easyCBM's tools by using the tools found at the resource center.

You must know where you are saving downloads on your computer to save the list as a document. Pay attention and name files with meaningful file names, such as "chapter17vocab." Enter your list with one term per line or separated by commas, etc. Click on advanced options to add other options to the search: number or alphabetize the definition results, maximum definitions, and hiding parts of speech.Create definitions easily for word lists in any subject area. Have students enter a series of similar words to see variations in connotations. For example, enter various words that mean "fat" and discover the variability in positive and negative connotations. Follow up with a ranking or sorting activity with the same words on interactive whiteboard to build word choice options. Have students generate individualized reading vocabulary lists for content are reading chapters or literature. Click on the synonyms tab to find related words. Save as a document for easy sharing in groups. Advise students to collect definitions and compare to those they write in their own words. As with any other reference, students should be cautioned to be sure these are accurate definitions needed for the context in which they are studying the words.

Have students use EasyWrite to retell difficult text in an easy to understand way. Retell Shakespeare passages in simple English or breakdown complicated directions into simple terms. EasyWrite is perfect for use with ENL/ESL or special education students. Choose any complex or difficult text and break it into simpler terms for easier understanding. Do this by adding a free browser extension to classroom computers and devices. Use a tool such as Grammarly (at the time of this review worked for Chrome, Safari, Edge, and FireFox), reviewed here., or After the Deadline, reviewed here. Turn the theory of EasyWrite upside down - have students paste their writing projects into EasyWrite. If there are only a few highlighted words, have them develop more interesting and complex writing passages. Edit photos directly in your browser; no registration is required with Edit Photo and without ads! Begin by selecting an image from your device, taking a picture with your camera, or choosing an image from the gallery provided by Unsplash, reviewed here. Use Edit Photo's tools to crop images and add filters, frames, annotations, and more. When finished, click export to select a format and image size, then download to your device or copy to paste into a document you choose.

In the Classroom
Because this resource is so easy to use and works right within your browser, it makes it a perfect choice for many different classroom uses. For example, use the simple meme generator with a historical figure to introduce a new social studies unit with humor. Edit images to include on your classroom website to add text and stickers and crop out unwanted portions. Use this tool anytime photos need to be edited for class blogs, wikis, or presentation tools. In primary grades, this tool could be helpful for teachers to use to edit pictures from field trips, science experiments, and more. This tool is a great way to take videos and add your own voice or add questions within the video. YouTube videos are viewable in edpuzzle even if your school filters block them! Search for educational videos from sites such as Khan Academy and Learn Zillion. Use the sliders to choose the video section, then insert your voice or comment on the video. Create a series of questions to go along with your selected video and insert them into the correct part of the video. There is no need for students to watch the whole video to access the questions at the end. Follow the on-screen directions to chop the video for the section you need, add your voice, and choose where to add text-based questions. Create a class and add students to the class either in the dashboard or after creating the video. Use student codes to access the video. At the bottom of the page, on the far right, click the "Help Center" button. There is also a short demo video hosted on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, find the video you want to use and embed it in edpuzzle. It will be viewable when used through Edpuzzle! The free plan has storage space for 20 video lessons.
