Are you having trouble finding Blues sites with the music? Listen to handpicked classic, popular Blues sounds of the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s on this YouTube playlist. You'll find Leadbelly, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Jelly Roll Morton, Joe Venuti, Bessie Smith and many, many more. The music is crystal clear with none of the scratchy sounds you hear with many old songs that were recorded from old technology. If your district blocks YouTube, you may not be able to enjoy this music.

Play musical selections for students to talk about musical elements and styles in music class. Scroll down the page to find links to other Past Perfect sites, or use the search bar and type in Past Perfect Vintage Music to get only that selection. Have partners explore the sites to find examples of different rhythms or styles they prefer. Enhance learning by having a class Padlet, reviewed here, where students share their favorites and listen to others' favorites. In social studies or history classes, use this Perfect Blues music as an introduction to any unit of study from the 1920s - 1950s in your classroom. Share with students for use in multimedia presentations (with proper attribution, of course). Try sharing this resource with students when they are creating podcasts, slideshows, and other media projects. SceneVR is a virtual reality editor that turns panoramic images into a slideshow. Use the editor to upload panoramic photos from a camera or panoramic scenes from phones. To create your slideshow, log in using your Google account to open SceneVr Creator and follow prompts to upload images. After editing your project, publish using the links to share online, embed it into a website, or share it on social media. Be sure to check out the site's tips for creating projects.
In the Classroom
Use SceneVR to take slide presentations to a whole new level. Quickly upload panoramic photos from class field trips, science experiments, or presentations to create a unique presentation to share with parents and families on your website. Ask students to use their photos to create a virtual reality presentation. For example, when learning about geometric shapes, have students take panoramic images of your classroom and school. Put these images into SceneVR to create a presentation and allow students to explore your "virtual world" for shapes found around them. Extend learning further by incorporating the slideshows into a multimedia presentation such as a digital book made with Book Creator, reviewed here, or Sway, reviewed here. Introduce your students to Kwanzaa by taking the quiz to see how much they know about Kwanzaa. Then in pairs or small groups, have students research the terms. As students research, substitute paper and pen journals by asking younger students to create a blog using a tool like Penzu, reviewed here to share what they are learning with fellow students. A great blogging tool for older students is Telegra.ph, reviewed here. With Telegra.ph have students click on an icon to upload related images, add YouTube or Vimeo links. YouTube is a video hosting platform for viewing and sharing videos, with over 1 billion users worldwide. Content ranges across all subjects and interests. Use YouTube's search feature to locate videos for any content and age range. You can also upload your own videos. After uploading videos, YouTube offers basic editing tools to remove portions of your video, add music, and add end screens. Use the share option to post the link to your video on social media, or obtain the embed code to include on a website or blog. Be sure to check your school's policy and filter use before using YouTube in the classroom.

YouTube offers a variety of classroom uses. Create your own YouTube channel to provide instructional videos for your students. Create a playlist of videos that support your teaching and help students learn from different viewpoints. With proper permissions, have students create videos that share their learning and understanding of concepts and post them on your class webpage. Flip learning by having students watch videos at home to provide context before classroom lessons. Use YouTube videos to create an interactive learning experience instead of passive learning by using a site such as Edpuzzle, reviewed here, to modify any video to your lesson. Add questions, clip out unnecessary portions of the video, and add comments and information by recording your voice. The 1619 Project Curriculum includes a comprehensive set of teaching materials to bring the 1619 Project into your classroom. The 1619 Project began with a special issue of the New York Times suggesting that United States history begins with the arrival of the first enslaved African Americans in 1619. The curriculum includes lessons for all grades, including a Reading Guide with warm-up questions, discussion ideas, and extension questions correlated to Common Core Standards. Other materials on this site include a lesson plan based on the kids' section of the 1619 Project and an Index of Terms and Historical Events. Additionally, this site offers lesson plans contributed by other educators, and activities to extend student engagement.

In the Classroom
Take advantage of the wide variety of materials included in this curriculum as part of any lessons on slavery, civil war, and early American history. As you introduce the 1619 Project to your students, ask them to work with a partner or in groups to highlight and identify important information. Many of the student materials are available as PDF documents, have students work in groups to highlight important information or information that needs additional clarification. If you work with older students, use a digital annotation tool like Hypothesis, reviewed here, to add and share notes for discussion. As students become familiar with the content found in the 1619 Project, ask them to demonstrate their understanding of the materials through their choice of multi-media tools. Suggestions include asking students to create a newsletter with the arrival date of the first enslaved African-Americans using Smore, reviewed here, or use Preceden, reviewed here, to build and customize a timeline of events featured in the article. Use the information found on the site to extend learning further and help students make real-life connections to the material by asking students to use the information learned to direct and act out different events in history. BBC Bitesize is an educational support site designed for students in the United Kingdom. Although much of the material is labeled based on United Kingdom grade definitions, the site is very easy to use for students in any location. Begin by selecting from three main grade bands - primary, secondary, and post-16. Within each grade band, narrow down choices even further by age. If looking for a specific content area, scroll down to almost the bottom of the home page to select "view all subjects." Content includes quizzes, videos, articles, learning guides, and more. Registration isn't required, but it allows you to save items as favorites.

In the Classroom
Bookmark and save this site to take advantage of the many resources on this site to supplement classroom instruction in any topic. If you teach history, use Bitesize to provide information to students from the British perspective. Add links to games or quizzes on your classroom website for students to practice at home. Use Padlet, reviewed here, to organize and share resources with students. Organize games and online activities into columns based on different topics to make information easy to find. Have students compare and contrast British terms and units of measurement with your system of measurement and common phrases. Use a Venn Diagram creator like the one found at Class Tools, reviewed here, to show comparisons with the British examples. If working with older students, enhance learning by using Fiskkit, reviewed here, as a tool for collaborative discussions of the articles found on Bitesize. Do you need to make random selections of names, items, places, or other items? This tool is for you! Customize the slices on the wheel to include names and/or images. Because Google hosts this wheel, it allows you to save customized wheels onto Google Drive for easy access anywhere. Another handy option offers you the ability to import names from a spreadsheet. Although the Wheel of Names allows you to add as many names as you like, the maximum number of names showing at any time will be 48. If there are more, the names change each second until starting to spin the wheel.

In the Classroom
Use the Wheel of Names to randomly call students during class discussions. Add images instead of names to make the wheel more interesting. In addition to the obvious use for calling names, use this random wheel in a variety of different ways. Add dates onto the wheel when reviewing events in history, review vocabulary, instead of student names add character names from novels for students to discuss, add books to determine the next read-aloud, the list goes on and on!
